DESCRIPTION: 

Raise Your Hand Texas is hiring a Digital Communications Intern for the 2025 fall semester to support the organization’s social media, graphic design, editorial, media relations, and event marketing efforts. This person will work in a team environment to execute marketing and public relations campaigns that support public education policy and advocacy work in Texas. 

We are looking for someone who can represent our organization and our brand professionally while coming up with creative ideas and strategies the team and all of our collaborators can use to help promote our mission effectively. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives on learning new platforms and engaging with a variety of audiences. Working knowledge or understanding of SEO and web traffic, and comm tech is a must, as is an understanding of social media platforms and algorithms. 

To succeed in this role, this person must be self-motivated, organized, creative, and have strong written and verbal skills. This is a part-time position based in Austin that can include up to 20 hours per week. The position requires in-office presence.

  

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the communications team to advance Raise Your Hand Texas’ social/digital presence
  • Assist with creating digital promotion strategies for the organization  
  • Producing online content, including short-form videos, finding online trends, and creating content in our brand voice
  • Use tools such as Canva to create social media and additional graphic content 
  • Write marcom content in AP style for social, promotional emails, newsletters, blogs, web content, etc. 
  • Create drafts of social media content and schedule approved posts on social media channels
  • Research, support, and implement marketing and social strategies to grow, engage, and optimize Raise Your Hand Texas’ audiences and social channels
  • Assist with social media analytics and website analytics (Google Analytics) to further understand the organization’s audiences
  • Build media and event attendee lists, ability to learn to use a variety of technology tools quickly
  • Assist in producing events
  • Recommend changes to the organization's website, SEO strategy, and implement them 
  • Help manage the organization’s editorial calendar 
  • Build and apply knowledge about public education policy in Texas

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, or another related field
  • Advanced understanding of the digital media landscape as well as social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky, Google+, and Instagram
  • Previous experience with social media management tools (HootSuite, Sprout Social, Later, etc.)
  • Close attention to detail
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to multi-task well
  • Alignment with the core beliefs and mission of Raise Your Hand Texas
  • Familiarity with and commitment to improving the Texas K-12 public school system
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • An understanding of, but not reliance upon, generative artificial intelligence 
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Based in Austin, Texas
  • Willingness to learn new platforms and processes 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship experience and a sample portfolio
  • SEO or SEM knowledge
  • Google Analytics experience 
  • Experience with WordPress, HTML/CSS
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with MONDAY, Asana, Slack, and Muck Rack/Critical Mention or other Media       Database tools
